Konrad Lorenz fue un zoólogo austriaco y uno de los fundadores de la etología moderna. Estudió de manera experta el comportamiento instintivo de los animales, con un enfoque particular en gansos y grajos. Lorenz se hizo ampliamente conocido por sus detalladas descripciones del acuñamiento (imprinting), el proceso crucial mediante el cual las crías de aves se vinculan instintivamente al primer objeto en movimiento que encuentran.
