Karl Christian Friedrich Krause fue un filósofo alemán cuya obra buscó reconciliar la fe y la razón. Postuló que Dios no es una personalidad, sino una esencia que todo lo abarca y que contiene el universo en sí mismo. Este sistema lo denominó panenteísmo, una mezcla de monoteísmo y panteísmo. Su teoría idealista y universal del mundo y de la humanidad dejó una marca significativa en el pensamiento posterior.
Krause se habilitó para la enseñanza en las Universidades de Jena (1802), Berlín (1814) y Gotinga (1824) con los tres escritos en latín aquí traducidos, dos de ellos hvertidos por su autor al alemán con notas correctoras y aclaratorias. Su lectura conjunta acumula una serie de ventajas difíciles de encontrar en otra obra de este filó posibilita una rápida, fácil y ajustada aproximación a su filosofía fundamental, incluida la evolución.

El pensamiento estético de Krause ha de entenderse por relación a Kant-Fichte y a Hegel tanto en el sentido de reinicio como de diálogo filosófico y controversia. Su punto de partida, necesariamente el sujeto kantiano, gira sin embargo en otro sentido que el “romántico” de Fichte. Krause también se sirve de las experiencias de Schiller y Schelling, posibilitando un orden filosófico más comprensivo.
