Más información sobre el libro
Although best known for his association with the Frankfurt School of Critical Theory, Theodor W. Adorno began his career as a composer and music critic. This collection presents the first complete English translations of two of his works: *Moments musicaux*, comprising essays from 1928 to 1962, and *Theory of New Music*, featuring texts from 1929 to 1955. In *Moments musicaux*, Adorno reflects on music through aphoristic insights, paralleling Schubert's cycle, while offering lyrical analyses of both historical and contemporary music. His essays exemplify his commitment to applying high philosophical standards to music study. Conversely, *Theory of New Music* articulates Adorno's theories on the composition, reception, and analysis of contemporary works. Although his philosophical pursuits curtailed his compositional ambitions, his perspective on modern music transcends mere theory, revealing his identity as a composer. While his support for the Second Viennese School, including Arnold Schoenberg and his students, is recognized, many related writings have remained obscure. This collection illuminates Adorno's musical insights and uncovers a lesser-known dimension of his thought.
