Más información sobre el libro

Hegel delivered lecture series on aesthetics at various universities but never published a dedicated book on the subject. His student, H. G. Hotho, compiled transcripts from these lectures, resulting in three volumes on aesthetics in Hegel's collected works. Annemarie Gethmann-Siefert has now published the Hotho transcript from the 1823 lecture series, accompanied by an extensive introductory essay that addresses key issues for understanding Hegel's views on art. She argues convincingly that Hegel never finalized his philosophy of art, modifying his ideas significantly across different lecture series. Furthermore, Gethmann-Siefert contends that Hotho's compilation obscured this variability by creating a harmonious narrative from diverse sources, while also imposing his own aesthetic views that diverge from Hegel's. This translation of the German volume, featuring the first publication of the Hotho transcript along with Gethmann-Siefert's essay, makes these crucial materials accessible to English readers. This work is poised to enhance the English-speaking world's understanding and interpretation of Hegel's philosophy of art, providing a more accurate foundation for future scholarship.
