The colloquium on Atmospheric Trace Constituents, held in Mainz on July 1, 1981, was a one-day meeting for the scientific working groups of the SFB-73. Its aim was to review the research conducted over the past two years and to discuss the current state, challenges, and potential future developments of various projects. The program included two sessions focusing on trace gases (session I) and aerosol particles (session II) in the atmosphere. Each of the 14 partial projects contributed at least one research paper. Nearly twenty presentations and discussions covered methods, results, and the current state of research, highlighting numerous unresolved questions in both experimental and theoretical studies. The topics addressed reflect the breadth of the research undertaken. The proceedings include almost all papers presented at the colloquium, published promptly thanks to the authors' dedication to meeting tight deadlines. However, a few papers experienced significant delays, leading to an editorial lag of several months. The efforts of all contributors are acknowledged and appreciated.
